A third-generation Pilates instructor teaching since 2005, Jennifer Politte decided in 2013 that she wanted to open a studio of her own. “I wanted to create a community of people that support one another and have fun at the same time,” she says. Pilates on the Bay, her classical Pilates studio, offers private, semi-private, and group classes.
When Politte was in the planning phase of opening her studio, she knew she would need a bank loan. She turned to SCORE for guidance writing her business plan and ultimately securing a loan.
She worked with Ray Robertson to put together a business plan. “He helped me iron out the important details so that I would have a realistic blueprint for my business,” she recalls. “He also helped me flesh out and describe what I would be risking on my end so that bank would see that I was invested in my business venture as well.”
Robertson met with Politte about 10 times during that initial business-planning phase, but Politte says he checks in to see how she’s doing how that her business has grown.
“I have been in the black since day one, have added one additional instructor, and have four teachers in training,” Politte says. “I am proud to say that we average 50-65 students that attend classes and private lessons weekly.”
